Last call

Who: Mark, OT Valentine
Where: Philadelphia
When: Wednesday evening

To say Mark was overly cautious might have been an understatement if not for the fact that he was reasonably certain he was right. Instead of making this particular call on a landline - or even within city limits - he had gone all the way to Philly just to get hold of a safe phone and make a call.

He'd gotten the number from that strange prophet person, or that person who said he was a prophet, anyhow. The plans were coming along well, but in order to make some sort of global broadcast, he couldn't very well leave out the person who everyone already knew, could he?

"Please don't ignore this number... please don't ignore this number..." he muttered to himself as he listened to the phone ring.

Valentine tried to remember who the hell Mark was - Mark, Mark - one guy sprung to mind, and made Val frown as he settled down on the bed with the phone.

"...from college?"

"Yeah, the guy with the posters. I'd ask you where the hell you've been, but I don't wanna know and if you're smart you don't wanna tell me."

Mark chuckled a bit. "Things are getting bad up here -- and for some reason, everyone seems to think you're the face of the revolution. Which is why I called. Well, that, and a prophet told me to. It's been a long month."

"I've.. yes, I have seen some of the hype," Val admitted, fidgeting slightly. "And -- oh, the prophet. Him again. Heh. What did he say about me?"

Val slid back to lie down on the bed - he had a feeling this wasn't likely to go to the good place.
Apr. 10th, 2009 01:59 am (UTC)
"He said I needed to get you back down here. There's still a world to save," Mark said, matter-of-factly.
Apr. 10th, 2009 02:05 am (UTC)
Val frowned.

"There is a whole world in need of saving and I'm to come back up there for it? But... what can I do? I know what the internet thinks I can do - but I'm just a guy. I don't really have some super secret plan, or armies to command..."

Mister Hairless jumped up on him, and he petted the cat with the hand not holding the phone, welcoming the distraction.

"That's -my- job," Mark said. "-Your- job is to make it sound good to people. -Your- job is to be the recognizable face that gets broadcast all over the planet. -My- job is to make sure you've got what you need, and that when things go down, there's somewhere better to go to than a paddy wagon."
Apr. 10th, 2009 05:24 am (UTC)
"... you're going to broadcast me all over the planet. Well, what I'm going to need for one is a hole to crawl into about six feet deep because won't that be like digging my own grave? I'm already in a lot of hot water- that's why I'm lying low. Now granted, don't want to hide the rest of my life but..."

He bit his bottom lip, contemplating his crazy talk Mark was giving him, and what it would mean. "Still, if you have a plan... I am listening."

Listening was free, after all.

"You're already probably on the execution list for the Guardians anyhow. Maybe not a high enough priority to kill today, but they'll have plenty of time once the world is theirs. Besides, we're doing a bit of filmography in preparation for a global broadcast. Showing what the Guardians are actually doing, and to whom. Pop the cap on this veil of secrecy bullshit. And considering the very interesting things I've been hearing about who you're hanging out with, you probably know at least as much about that sort of thing as I do, if not more." Mark paused a moment, and added, "Plus, it's not the craziest plan we're working on at the moment. But that plan is reserved for face-to-face consultations."
Apr. 10th, 2009 06:16 am (UTC)
"So you want me to be the recognizable face behind the crazy plan because you figure I've not much to lose on the deal because they're likely to execute me anyway? Charming..."

He sighed, and rubbed his head. He of course, didn't doubt that this might very well be the case, in spite of what his uncle was doing to try and cut a deal with them. And if a prophet had said it was time for him to go on home, well.

"Face to face in the city?" he asked. "When did you have in mind? I need to.. consult with some folks, make arangements, if I do so choose to go back..."
Apr. 10th, 2009 06:19 am (UTC)
"Whenever you're ready, though sooner is better - time's running out, and I didn't need a prophet to tell me that one." Mark chuckled. "I'm not gonna answer this phone immediately if you call it, so just text-message it when you've got an idea of when and where you want to meet up, and I'll be there."
Apr. 10th, 2009 06:26 am (UTC)
"Alright, thank you... I will be in touch," Valentine said.

He'd need to talk to Ellis, ask some questions, see what he thought of the idea.
Apr. 10th, 2009 06:27 am (UTC)
"Okay. Be careful," Mark said, and hung up. That was another piece taken care of... hopefully.
