What a way to go, they have no fear

Who: Hans, Eddie, Duva, Liann, other Mount Sinai hospital employees and Guardian agents
Where: Mount Sinai Hospital
When: Monday, 8:02:18 AM

"She's two minutes and eighteen seconds late," Eddie observed, glancing down at his watch. They were currently waiting in a well-furnished, comfortable waiting area - the sort of place where you'd expect to rest your feet if you were a big spender looking for a charitable cause to donate to, while they gathered up the necessary fleecing paperwork required for such an endeavor. Personally, Eddie had other things on his mind at the moment, like the absence of his girlfriend, but those were thoughts he allowed himself to mull over only as background, in his usual roundabout way. "This 'Guardian wing' -- it is sounding peculiar that they do not at least put your name about it somewhere, charitability or not withstanding. 'Hello, I am giving you my money, can you please name it as a political contribution to your great and glorious cause?' Even a little plaque would be nice..."

The three of them were here, if one were to sum up the purpose behind their visit, to investigate a new wing of the hospital that was being added - using Hans' money - as part of reparations for that unfortunate little incident with the little actor boy who said stupid things on national television and had become a minor Internet celebrity as a result. While Eddie wasn't certain of medical technology, he was mostly present to identify important non-medical technology, ostensibly for the purpose of asking whether these expenditures were really necessary for a medical facility, and less ostensibly for the purposes of noting such down, should it become relevant in the near future. The person they were supposed to meet with was an 'Agent Liann Mitchell' of the 'Guardians of New York Human Relations Department', a job title with a double meaning if ever there was one. And, to Eddie's mild annoyance, she was running late according to his watch. Considering it was set according to atomic time, he blamed this entirely on her. Damn inhuman entity and her lack of chronological skills.

"Punctuality is apparently not their strong suit," Hans commented dryly. He was settled in one of the comfortable chairs, hands folded, impeccably dressed in one of his most expensive and fine-tailored suits. He looked ever inch the wealthy financial donor.

"I just want to get this business concluded. There have been enough delays."

It seemed like one thing after another had delayed their touring the facility, until now they were finally here to do so.

The door opened a few minutes later, and a lovely woman emerged, with a carefully friendly smile. "Ah, Mr. Varner, you're here. Apologies for the delay... but the receptionist mentioned you had guests?" She raised a brow, looking from Duva to Eddie. The delay, of course, had been in having to pull their files - but this was not a social situation where honesty was required or helpful.

Hans stood and offered his hand politely. "Ms. Mitchell. Allow me to introduce our technical expert, Edward Lancaster, and our independent medical expert, Dr. Duva Gruenbaum."

He had no intention of explaining the exact nature of his relationship with either man. "I trust there will be no trouble in them coming along to explain to me what we will be seeing on the tour. I am no expert in either field myself, and I like to understand where my money will be going. Completely understand."

"Ah, I see. Well, gentlemen, you are going to need these ID badges while you are in the facility, since it is still under construction." Liann held up a trio of badges with names, pictures, and personal information printed on them, as well as a clear red 'Visitor' emblazoned across the front. "Given these tense times, security is highly important."

Eddie took his badge, and eyed it critically. Probably had an RFID chip in it, and the info on it likely came from the DMV - if it was meant to unnerve him, it wasn't working. He pinned it in place, and then stuck his hands in his pockets. "Very much of the understandability of nature."

Slightly late and attempting to intimidate by weird means - why else ask who they were, then produce badges with their names and pictures on? Duva smiled politely and reached to take his. "I'm making quite a collection of these."

He removed his hospital one and tucked it into his pocket, and put the new badge in place.

"Now then," Liann said, "if you will both follow me, we will examine the wing. Some of the areas are still under construction, though, and they're still bringing in equipment." She held her card up to the door opposite the one she entered through; the door made a resounding beep, followed by a click as it unlocked. "This way, please."

She led the group first into a sterile white hallway that smelled faintly of fresh plaster and wallboard. Windows in the hallway showed a series of beds arranged in a row, looking not terribly unlike a standard emergency room bay. "Of course, part of our expansion efforts are to expand the medical coverage Mount Sinai can provide in emergencies. We plan on expanding our emergency preparedness coverage by 50%, including dedicated sections for members of law enforcement and emergency preparedness divisions to receive immediate service and treatment for injuries suffered in the line of duty."
